Sleep Diagnostics in the comfort of your own bed
Do you think you might have Sleep Apnea?
If so, your first step should be to speak with your family doctor about your options for diagnosis. Common symptoms of sleep disorders include:
- Snoring
- Daytime sleepiness
- Waking up with headaches
- Trouble concentrating during the day
- Loss of sex drive
- Nap frequently
- Difficulty remembering things
Typically, your doctor will recommend an in-lab Level One Sleep Study. This is the “gold-standard” for diagnostic testing. In a Level One Sleep study, you’re hooked up to equipment that monitors your heart, lung and brain activity, breathing patterns, arm and leg movements, and blood oxygen levels while you sleep. This can help your doctor rule out other conditions — such as periodic limb movements or narcolepsy — that can also cause excessive daytime sleepiness, but require different treatment. These tests must be done in an overnight sleep lab facility.
However, for simple Sleep Apnea screening and diagnosis, Home Sleep Studies are available which will allow you to conduct the Sleep Study in the comfort of your own bed. These studies are available at FPM Solutions with a Prescription from your family physician. Please note however, that in Ontario, OHIP does not recognize Level One studies for diagnostic or therapy reimbursement. Contact us today to learn more about Home Sleep Studies.
